Staybridge Suites
Project
Sector
With permission from IHG, the owner requested a redesign to the Staybridge standard for this property. The designer was careful to maintain an aesthetic that was sensitive to and reinforced the brand and used approved vendors while infusing a breath of modern and soft-contemporary style to successfully compete in the local market as a premier and preferred extended-stay property. This also required working within the budget established on the standard (mass-producible) design. The client wanted a fresh, updated property but within the limits of their proforma/costs associated with the standard materials, fixtures, and finishes. The Arkansas River runs along much of the city’s border. It is an integral part of the personality and tourist attraction. Six bridges span the river, connecting it to surrounding areas and serving a significant part of the city’s identity. The driving inspiration for this hotel project revolves around the bridge as a motif, its elements, scale, materiality, patterns, etc. Design elements and details throughout the property embrace the materials, patterns, and construction found on bridges while being inspired by shadows those bridges create. In addition to reimagining the interiors, the client requested a redesign of the exterior building materials and outdoor spaces. The courtyard was completely redesigned with a mix of hardscape areas, turf, pavilion, and grassy pet-friendly zone. The courtyard is an extension of the interiors that reflects natural habitats of the city while creating quaint spaces for guests to rest, have breakfast or even gather for meetings all in a low-maintenance, multi-season outdoor space.
