A warm, natural environment, somewhat distanced from the popular white and super modern, was desired for this dermatology clinic.
The physicians walk their patients through several phases of medical, surgical, and cosmetic services with individualized treatment plans, so the idea of the journey to skin health along with the desire for elements of nature were combined to develop a concept based on a path. The concept was executed with changes in ceiling heights and materials (the focal wood ceiling in the waiting room immediately engaging you at the entry), patterns in flooring materials at way finding points (such as seen in the corridors and nurse station), a clear and organized space plan among calming, approachable, and warm materials. An intentional and well-thought out space plan resolved many of the client’s requests. The “Skin Care Center” is visible and open from the Waiting Room to invite patients to peruse products. Access to the Center from the clinic side is directly across from the check out to encourage patient engagement. Laser and Phototherapy rooms across from the Aesthetician also have direct access to the nurse station, integrating seamlessly into other clinic functions. Although exam rooms are at the “back” of the clinic, organized wayfinding and logical placement allowed the opportunity for growth with the nurse station and doctor’s desks positioned along the tenant wall yet the ends left open, so circulation could be extended for expansion of exam and procedure rooms.
